Luxury Dinner

Summary
The year we saved harder for luxury
As the macroeconomic picture continues to throw up surprises, so Luxury needs to pivot once again. We are seeing brands talk more openly already about taking their rental business online, and helping customers with payment support more publicly than they did in the past.
The financial journey to a luxury item may be getting longer for some consumers in 2023 - which means that there are opportunities to think about rental, subscription, vintage revival and upcycling services alongside staying relevant for first-time customers.
Our annual January dinner for Luxury brand owners was the perfect way to think hard about the year ahead whilst putting on a great outfit and meeting peers from the sector.
Over dinner we spent the time debating some of the following:
- How to weave “rental” into your brand marketing strategy
- Building-in “save up for” into the luxury narrative?
- Retaining the mystery of luxury during an economic downturn
- How can “repair” help the perception of the sector?

Brought up in an Asian family business it was inevitable that I would have my own business one day. I worked for many years in the Banking and Investment Banking Industry in the City of London. It was whilst being a stay at home mum that I realised my priorities had changed and I couldn’t just nip out in my lunch hour to purchase the latest Gucci or Louis Vuitton bag without having a care in the world. I have over 30 years experience of buying designer handbags and decided to search the web for Pre-loved bags to purchase to fuel my passion as they would be a lot cheaper wouldn’t they? Goodness wasn’t I wrong…! That’s when I decided there was a need for Papillonkia to be born. The rest as they say...
