Summary
Sports and Outdoor 2023
Participation has changed at a fundamental level across all Sporting and outdoor activities in the last 2yrs. Some people have become "all in", super-committed, others have "discovered" the outdoors through new routes in, which is creating huge change in the landscape.
The ultra bike packing crews and the cold water swimmers have ranked it up a notch, whilst the cycling covid boom has long since crashed - leaving supply chains and warehouses in disarray.
Time to reset, benchmark and try to settle back in. We were told many years ago that this sector wasn't the place to get rich, you were all in it for the love not the money. Similarly, we started this conference knowing that passionate consumers buy for their outdoor and sporting hobbies with more care and different mindset that everything else. So - the facts haven't changed, but the world around us has.
Come and meet your besties, hear from the affected, afflicted and the new show-offs. Learn from the digital natives, the next big brands and the sustainable leaders struggling with the ethics of growth.
We've missed this.
- How does commitment improve predictability?
- Exploring strategies for promoting sustainability in the market
- Reducing commoditization through storytelling

George Huxford
General Manager
ApiduraRead Full Bio →
Not quite creative enough to take advantage of his Product Design degree but too creative for the Army to feel he should extend his five-year career much further; George joined the cycle trade as the only bike mechanic who ironed his jeans.
He later found a home in marketing, taking a route via events and staff training. He joined Apidura in their 4th year, taking on marketing, brand and B2B sales. Over the following years George was invited to join so many conversations and projects across the business, the Founders felt it was probably simpler to let him lead the overall direction of Apidura. They subsequently moved to France and he has since built the team to 24 people, lead new product directions as well as building an office exclusively from Freecycle and Gumtree.
