2023 - the year to know your customer
“Whoever understands their customer the best will win”. Changes in fitness & sports behaviour have been so seismic in the last 24 months that most businesses in the sector are in full receive mode. From the cycling explosion in 2020 to sales falling off a cliff in late 2021 - sports enthusiasts’ habits have transformed alongside those who dip in and out of sport.
Outdoor has seen a slightly more predictable and sustainable set of growth, driven by significant percentages of the population falling in love with the outdoors again. Keeping new customers engaged whilst building a community of your own seems to be the big challenge on every S&O brand and retailers’ 2023 list - so that’s what we spoke about this autumn.
